The WWDC 2025 event signaled a significant change in Apple’s software direction. Alongside introducing new features, Apple unveiled the Liquid Glass interface, a design refresh that brought floating, translucent navigation bars. However, this sleek new look came with its own set of problems. Users quickly reported bugs, rapid battery drainage, and other issues post-launch.
Apple’s engineering and software teams are now on a mission to tackle these problems head-on. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, they’re “hunting for bloat to cut, bugs to eliminate, and any opportunity to meaningfully boost performance and overall quality.” In simpler terms, Apple is taking a step back to fix the underlying issues with iOS 26, much like they did with the Snow Leopard update for Macs in 2009.
But iOS 27 won’t be a complete feature-less update. Apple is expected to introduce some new additions, particularly in the AI segment, to stay competitive. This includes integrating Google Gemini into Apple Intelligence and Siri, and even developing an AI-powered search tool to rival ChatGPT and Perplexity.
And this is the part most people miss: Apple has yet to release several AI features it announced at WWDC 24. These features are expected to arrive in 2026, and there’s a chance they could be part of the iOS 26.4 update.
